     Pediatric Simulation in Community Hospitals

    21 January 2025 | 18:00 UTC l 13:00 ET | 10:00 PT

    IPSS Member: Free | Non-Member: $50

We will give an overview of the education needs of practicing providers in community hospitals.  We will discuss unique challenges in providing this education in community hospitals with pediatric units within a larger hospital.  We will then present our pediatric simulation education curriculum and what we have learned from our research among our participants.

    Meet the Speakers:

    Azadeh Fayazi, M.D.

    Clinical Associate Professor

Stanford University, John Muir Medical Center

Azadeh Fayazi is a pediatric intensivist at John Muir Medical Center and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.  She completed her training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University, which is where her involvement with simulation education started.  She has been teaching trainees and staff through simulation for over 10 years.  She is the director of the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine First-Year Fellow Boot Camp as well as Co-Director of Pediatric Simulation at John Muir Medical Center, where she facilitates continued pediatric education for nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, and pharmacists.

    Siobhan Hopkins, M.D.

Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics & Co-Director of Pediatric Simulation

Stanford University, John Muir Medical Center

Dr. Siobhan Hopkins is a pediatric hospitalist at John Muir Medical Center. She graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed her residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital .As Co-Director of Pediatric Simulation at John Muir Medical Center, Dr. Hopkins designs multidisciplinary simulation training to improve clinical skills, teamwork, and patient safety.

In her previous career as a pediatric emergency room physician, she developed a passion for simulation-based education, recognizing its power to enhance outcomes in high-stakes scenarios. Reinventing herself as a pediatric hospitalist (a role she deeply loves) she seamlessly transitioned these skills to elevate the training of pediatricians in community hospital settings, fostering excellence in patient care and team collaboration. She continues to bring her passion for education, innovation, and collaboration to every aspect of her work.
